Description:
Latin Book of Hours (Use of Paris) dated 1500-10. Bernard sits within architectural setting framed by two columns. He is nimbed, in a white tunic and black scapular and with a black cap. He is at a desk writing on a scroll. A large grey devil with gold outlines, with horns, pointed ears, wings and claws, stands behind the desk with a hook in his left hand with which he grasps a scourge lying on the table. A blue hanging with gold decoration is behind Bernard, a grey wall behind the devil. Above in blue the Verses are introduced: 'Septem versus sancti bernardi'. Border on three sides with foliate decoration.
