Description:
In an English manuscript dated the third quarter of the thirteenth century of Pope Gregory the Great, Peter of Blois, and Bernard's 'De consideratione' whose origin is not known but which was given to the Franciscans in York, perhaps by Simon Newton. Bernard's work is illustrated with five miniatures of Bernard and Pope Eugenius and one of Bernard writing. The beginning of Book 3 is announced in red letters. Within the initial F(inis superioris libri huic principiam ponit) - 'The preceding book concludes with a beginning for this one' - the bearded Bernard has his right hand raised to Eugenius III who holds Bernard's treatise in his right hand while his left is raised pointing at Bernard. Eugenius wears the pointed papal hat. See also MA283-4 ans MA 286-8.
