Description:
In an English manuscript dated the third quarter of the thirteenth century of Pope Gregory the Great, Peter of Blois, and Bernard's 'De consideratione' whose origin is unknown but which was given to the Franciscans in York, perhaps by Simon Newton. Bernard's work is illustrated with five miniatures of Bernard and Eugenius III and one of Bernard writing. The red letters above announce the beginning of Book 2. Within the initial M(emor promissi mei) - 'I remember the promise I made to you such a long time ago'- the bearded Bernard sits looking up at Eugenius whom he hands his work with the right hand while raising the left hand. Eugenius, in the conical papal headgear, takes it with his left hand while raising his right hand pointing at Bernard. See also MA283 & MA 285-8.
