Description:
Single leaf from a fifteeth-century German Collection of the Sermons of St Bernard. Within the blue initial on gold ground H(odie, fratres, adventus initium celebramus) from the beginning of the First Sermon for Advent Bernard is depicted seated in a vaulted chamber between two pillars, in a black cowl with the hood over his head and carrying a crozier in his left hand and a red book in his left.
