Description:
A manuscript of 'Supplicationes variae' (book of prayers and devotions) dated 1293-1300 from the Franciscan house in Genoa which contains a pseudo-Bernardine sermon opening 'O quam vehementi amplexu amplexasti me bone Jesu quando sanguis exivit de corde aqua de latere anima de corpore. O amantissime iuvenis, quid fecisti ut talia patereris. Certe ego sum causa doloris tui'. The half-figure of Bernard carrying a book is within the initial 'O', and a circular representation of the Man of Sorrows is in the decoration of the lower border. The work is introduced in red as 'Incipiunt auctoritates beati bernardi ad recordandum de deo et ad accendendum spiritum in dei amorem primo de passione Christi'.
