Description:
Cistercian Hymnal entitled 'Cantica per totum annum' from c 1440-50. Almost certainly belonged to the Cistercian abbey of Settimo, as the feast of St Quentin is included - particularly rare except at Settimo. Bernard is kneeling within the initial B(ernardus doctor inclitus) from his feast as indicated in the previous folio: 'In festo patris nostri Bernardi'. In front of him is an open book on a lectern. A smaller Virgin in blue appears within a red cloud on a blue sky above. Behind Bernard is a green landscape with trees. Foliate decoration at the top and under the initial ending in fruit and with a bird below.
