Description:
A Flemish manuscript from Bruges dated 1400-10 of the Golden Legend has an image of a standing Bernard in a white cowl holding a ring in his left hand to which a chain is attached at the end of which is a devil at his feet on whom he tramples. He has none of the usual attributes except for the rays of his halo. Under the miniature the section on Bernard is introduced by the letters in red 'de sancto Bernardo' before the text announcing his birth in Burgundy.
