Description:
Miniature in a late fifteenth-century manuscript of Vincent de Beauvais' 'Speculum Historiale' featuring a nimbed Bernard sitting on a high-backed chair writing in a book on his lap. He wears a cap. A number of books are lying on a high desk in the middle of the room and six further volumes can be seen resting on a high shelf - attesting to Bernard's great output. He is identified by the inscription above his head 's.bernard' in the same way as he in another miniature in the same manuscript which shows Bernard and his brothers being received at Citeaux by Stephen Harding - f 209v, see MA089.
