Description:
One of seven historiated initials featuring Bernard in this composite manuscript the main part of which contains 'De consideratione' and commissioned by Pope Nicolas V in 1452 (see also MA234-8 & MA240). The half-figure of Bernard is shown within the blue and gold initial C(i tibi dixit) decorated with rosa and green leaves against a gold ground. Bernard has the hood of his white cowl over his head. He holds a red book - his work - in his left hand and points to it with his right hand. Very similar to MA240.
