Description:
One of seven historiated initials featuring Bernard in this manuscript of 'De consideratione' commissioned by Pope Nicolas V in 1452 (see also MA234-6 & MA238-40). The large blue and gold initial S(i mihi plenius innotuisset) - 'If I had been more fully aware of the manner in whcih you received the books previous to this' - at the beginning of Book Four, is on a gold ground and with green and rosa foliate decoration. Within the initial is a half-figure of a nimbed Bernard who holds a red book - his work - in his left hand while his right hand is raised.
