Description:
Cistercian Breviary dated 1472 written at the Cistercian abbey of Herrenalb for the nuns' monastery of Lichtenthal with an Amplexus image. The cross-nimbed Christ with a crown of thorns and a blood-stained body has the arms detached from the cross with the nails still in position. He has his arms joined round the neck of a larger Bernard, nimbed and in a dark grey cowl. Behind him is his crozier. On the left are the lance and pole with a sponge on top and a bucket in which are some of the other 'Arma Christa'. Below is the text of the first Responsory from the first Nocturn from Vigils on the feast of Bernard.
