Description:
Historiated initial P(rima virtus viri sancti) from the first Responsory of the first Nocturn for the feast of Bernard from a Cistercian Antiphonary. A much smaller Christ has his arms detached from a T-Cross and placed around the shoulders of Bernard who holds the lifeless-looking body of Christ. The two heads touch. Bernard's crozier and mitre lie on the ground, and what appears like a small white dog is at Bernard's feet.
