Description:
Small historiated initial B(ernardus doctor inclitus celos conscendit hodie) - 'The distinguished teacher Bernard was to-day taken up into heaven'. From a Breviary, Use of Rome, from North Italy (Ferrara) with a bust of a nimbed Bernard with a long beard and carrying a crozier. Above the word 'hymnus' in red indicates that this is the hymn for Vespers for the feast of Bernard. The scribe has evidently thought that the way Bernard is addressed in the hymn was not suffiently full of praise and has added 'beatus' at the beginning which does not form part of the hymn.
