Description:
One of 14 full-page miniatures in a Book of Hours, Use of Utrecht, from c 1490 has a Lactation scene in a church. The Virgin sits on a raised throne on the right, Bernard kneels before her with hands folded and a crozier resting on his right shoulder. The naked Child standing on the Virgin's knee gestures to Bernard. The Virgin holds her left hand on her bared breast. The miniature precedes prayer to the Virgin 'Een schone gebet van onser leven vrouwen' (in red).
