Description:
Large miniature in a manuscript on paper of the Vita Prima translated to French ay Clairvaux in 1396. Commissioned by the Duchess of Burgundy from Jacotin de Ramecourt. A nimbed Bernard in a greyish-white cowl is seated on a chair holding a red crozier with gold top in his left hand. He holds an open book resting on his knees with his right hand. The floor has brown tiles and the wall behind is red. The title of the work is given in red above the miniature: 'Cy commence le premier livre de la vie de monseigneur st bernard'.
