Description:
One of many fine miniatures in a Book of Hours belonging to the family Ango with a prayer for the baptism of Marie Ango born 28/7/1514, the year it was probably made. The red letters above have 'Oraison de mons. sainct bernard'. A bearded Bernard kneels with hands clasped in prayer and with a crozier under his left arm before a table with a white cloth on which the Virgin in a blue dress standing behind places the naked Child sitting on an orange cushion. Behind the Virgin there is a red hanging with gold decoration. Next to the miniature is the decorated initial O (bone iesu). The borders are decorated with landscapes, figures kneeling and, above, God the Father surrounded by angels. It is not absolutely clear, but it may be a Lactation image. Bernard has 'tuft'.
