Description:
From manuscript dated 1455 from the fourth and last volume of the 'Mirror of History' by Vincent de Beauvais translated into French by Jean de Vignay. A nimbed Bernard in a white cowl sits on a high-backed chair raised two steps off a green floor on which a group of six monks also in white cowls sit on benches listening to him. Set in a chamber with a large window with blue sky, all within a gold frame. The text below in red reads: 'de la recommendacion du benoit bernard abbe de clervaux 7 chapitre'. This is followed by the decorated initial L(e premier an de l'empereur) - from Book 28, Chapter 1 of the 'Speculum Historiale'. There is another image of Bernard in the same manuscript - see MA196.
