Description:
An Italian Missal from the second half of the fifteenth century has a miniature depicting Bernard just over the text to the Mass for his feast beginning 'In medio ecclesie'. He is shown standing in a vaulted chamber with red columns flanked by two kneeling angels. He has a crozier in his right hand and a closed book in his left. At his feet is a devil whom he crushes with the end of his crozier.
