Description:
A tiny Book of Hours, Use of Rome, from the beginning of the sixteenth century has a miniature no larger than a postage stamp depicting Bernard standing, nimbed, with an open book in his left hand and a crozier in his right. His left hand also holds a chain at the end of which is a devil at his feet. Behind him is a verdant rural landscape with a river. At the top right hand corner the initial I(llumina) in gold on red background introduces the Eight Verses of Bernard. Three-quarter border with a bird, flowers, and birds on gold ground.
