Description:
A fifteenth-century manuscript of the Golden Legend in a French translation by Jean de Vignay. Bernard is depicted in a miniature within a gold frame in the bottom left corner of a folio headed 'de Saint Bernart' ib blue ink. He stands on green grass against a red and gold checquered background. He is nimbed, wearing a grey cowl with his hood over his head. He holds up a book in his right hand and has a crozier in his left. Above is the Prologue about his name introduced by the illuminated initial B(ernart) and below is the text introduced by the red words 'de saint bernart' and the illuminated inittial B(ernart fu ne en bourgogne).
