Miniature in a Book of Hours, Use of Rome, from Lyon dated c 1480/90 depicting Bernard in a white tunic and black scapular standing holding an open book with both hands. He shows this to a black horned devil who is walking away, his head turned round and looking at Bernard. The miniature introduces the 7 Verses - 'Septem versiculi sancto bernardi'. Elsewhere in the manuscript the owner is depicted witht the motto ET NON SANS CAUSE.
