Description:
In a Book of Hours from the late fifteenth century is a miniature with half-figures of the Virgin with naked Child and Bernard. The Virgin has long hair, an orange dress with a blue cloak over. She holds the Child with her left arm while she squeezes her bared breast with her right hand sending a jet of milk in the direction of Bernard who is kneeling before her, his hands clasped in prayer and with his crozier leaning against his left shoulder. Behind him is a window and through this a hilly landscape. Adjacent to the miniature is the initial I(llumina), the beginning of the 8 Verses of Bernard.
