Description:
In a thirteenth-century manuscript of Bernard's Sermons on the Song of Songs belonging to the German Premonstratensian abbey of Weissenau Bernard is portrayed within the initial A([d]sum meae promissioni. Capite nobis vulpes parvulas, quae demliuntur vineas; nam vinea nostra floruit) - 'I stand by my promise:'catch us the little foxes that spoil the vines, for our vines are in flower'', at the beginning of Chapter 64 entitled 'de diversis generibus vulpium' ('of differnt kinds of foxes'). Against a green background Bernard is bearded, wearing a blueish grey cowl, and carrying a primitive crozier in his left hand while his right hand is raised in blessing. He has a 'tuft'. The inscription above reads 'S(an)c(tu)s Bernhardus abbas'.
