Description:
At the beginning of the section on Bernard in a French version from c 1420 of the Golden Legend translated by Jean de Vignay which, according to an inscription on f 312v, formed part of the collection of Charles de Croy. Bernard is depicted in a dark grey cowl kneeling before the figure of Christ with two hands detached from the Cross and outstretched towards Bernard. The Cross is on grass with a chequered background in gold, red, and blue with white dots.
