Description:
Historiated initial I(n medio ecclesie) from the beginning of the Mass for the feast of Bernard from a late fifteenth-century or early sixteenth-century Cistercian Missal commissioned by Abbot Christiaan de Hondt (1495-1509) of Les Dunes whose arms appear in the manuscript. Bernard is kneeling before the Virgin and Child in a Lactation scene with the jet of milk from the Virgin's breast clearly visible. Border with naturalistic flowers and a butterfly.
