Description:
In a Gradual (Sanctorale) completed in 1370 from the Camaldolese abbey of Santa Maria degli Angeli with illuminations which may be little later by the monk Don Silvestro dei Gherarducci. It is now dispersed in various collections. This shows St Benedict enthroned with eight Benedictine saints, probably Romuald, Celestine V, Gregory the Great, Maurus, Bernard, Leo IV, John Gualbert and Placid. The full-page illumination introduces the liturgy for the feast of St Benedict (March 21).
