Description:
In a manuscript from Perugia dated 1375 containing St Augustine 'Soliloquia', pseudo-St Bernard 'de conscientia aedificandi' and St Anselm 'Orationes,' this half-page miniature prefaces the treatise attributed to Bernard, depicted bearded, seated on a bench, reading a book under an arcade of pink Romanesque architecture. Around the whole page is a full illuminated border of leafy scrolls with a bird and gold ball decoration. The text begins with decorated initial C(onscientia) on a gold ground.
