One of two images (see also MA115) in a devotional book 'Manuele pietatis' dated c 1524. A half-figure of Bernard seen from behind with his hands clasped and his crozier leaning against his left shoulder kneels before a smaller figure of Christ whose hands are still attached to the Cross, in other words, not an Amplexus picture. The background is a mountainous landscape. The golden border is decorated with roses, a bird, a snail, and a moth in the style of the period. See also MA140 & MA218. Bernard has 'tuft'.
