Description:
From Cistercian Missal dated c 1480 commissioned by Abbot Hendrik Keddekin of Ter Doest (1478-92) and containing an image of Bernard illustrating a sequence in his honour ('Gaude sancte Bernardus diceris'), one of a number miniatures painted by at least two hands. The lower border of the same folio has the arms of the abbot. Bernard is depicted standing on a green ground in front of a decorated backdrop behind which is a wall with flowers and a wooded landscape in the background. His crozier leans on his right shoulder and he holds an open book with both hands. At his feet is a small dog. A similar image of Bernard but without the dog is found elsewhere in the manuscript on f 302 (see MA144).
