Description:
One of three images of Bernard in the richly-decorated Missal from Baudeloo (see also MA 110 & MA 111). Commissioned by Abbot Peter van Heetvelde, 22nd abbot, and written between his election in 1490 and 1504, probably nearer the latter date. He is depicted on the right within the initial S(alve) kneeling before the Virgin and Child and supported by the standing figure of Bernard holding his crozier with the right hand and with the left hand on the abbot's shoulder. The small dog at his feet empnhasizes the attribution. Landscape border.
