Description:
One of three images of Bernard in the richly-decorated Missal from Baudeloo. Commissioned bt Abbot Peter van Heetvelde, the 22nd abbot, and written between his election in 1490 and 1504, and probably nearer the latter date. The abbot is represented kneeling in the bottom left border with his coat of arms at his feet in a full-page miniature of the Crucifixion with Mary and Saint John. He is supported by a standing Bernard with a crozier in his left hand and his right hand on the abbot's shoulder. The border is decorated in the style typical of the period, with flowers, insects, and birds. The manuscript contains 340 miniatures and must have been the work of a large lay workshop.
