Description:
In a Book of Hours which is one of the treasures of late fifteenth-century Italian book illumination, Use of Rome, from c 1470 illuminated in Ferrara for a member of the Gualenghi family by Taddeo Crivelli and Guglielmo Giraldi. Bernard is featured in a full-page miniature in one of the Memorials to a number of saints. The portrait of Bernard, standing with a crozier in his right hand and a book in his left, is by Giraldi. 'S.Bernarde' is inscribed on a scroll above the framed portrait which forms part of the richly decorated border. Bernard has a 'tuft'.
