Description:
From a Latin Breviary, Cistercian Use, dated c 1500 from Venice or Padua with many fine miniatures, borders, and historiated initials. A circular medallion at the foot of a folio, decorated with leaves and flowers on each side, features a Lactation scene. The Virgin in a red dress and blue mantle is enthroned in a landscape. The naked Child is seated on her right knee, and with her left hand she presses her breast. A jet of milk flows to the mouth of Bernard, kneeling and with his hands clasped.
