Description:
From a Flemish manuscript of the Office of the Holy Ghost from c 1500. In a half-page miniature Bernard is shown in a white cowl standing with a crozier and a chain holding the devil at his feet in his left hand and an open book in his right hand. Behind him is a doorway with a red background. Below is the text of the opening words ot the Eight Verses of St Bernard introduced in red letters - 'Octo versus sancti bernardi'. The border is decorated with a bird, a carnation, gentian and other flowers, and red currants.
