Description:
One of 26 full-page miniatures in a Book of Hours dated c 1500 illustrating suffrages to St Benedict and Bernard. The two saints are shown standing and facing each other, St Benedict on the left in a black cowl and Bernard on the right in a white cowl, each carrying a crozier and reading from open books held by Benedict in his left hand while Bernard holds his in both hands while his crozier is leaning on his left shoulder. Benedict's hood is partly over his head. They are standing in front of a wall behind which is a mountainous landscape with trees. Bernard has 'tuft'.
