Description:
One of 30 Full-page miniatures in Prayer Book from the Cistercian monastery of Herrenalb written by the monk Johannes Zuern but illustrated by a number of artists. A corpulent Bernard in a black cowl knees at the foot of the Cross from which the arms of Christ are detached and placed round Bernard. The two heads meet. The Cross is surmounted by the inscription INRI and the date 1484. Bernard's gold crozier, a red book, and the arms of Herrenalb - very similar to Clairvaux, but with a crozier added - lie on the ground. Bernard has 'tuft'.
