Description:
Bernard? An initial in the Book of Genesis from a Paris Bible dated second half of the thirteenth century with this seven-part illustration of the Creation below which a figure in a grey habit and with a golden halo is pointing at the initial with his left hand while holding a book in his right hand. Beside him the word 'Monachus' has been added by a later hand. A similar figure in the same manuscript is shown instructing a kneeling monk (see MA49). For comparison, see also MA309.
