Description:
This full-page miniature from c 1490 illustrates the legend of the Devil and the 9 Verses in a prayer book. It shows the moment when Bernard was interrupted in his prayers. He is sitting at a desk and turns round to the devil behind him and points towards an open psalter. An hour glass is placed on top of the desk and a closed book lies on a shelf beneath the desk. Bernard is in a black cowl. Bernard has a 'tuft'.
