Description:
Miniature in the 'Hortulus animae' (a prayer collection for the laity) from the 1520's with an Amplexus scene set in a church. The much larger figure of Bernard on the right takes hold of the small figure of Christ with arms detached from the Cross and placed on Bernard's shoulders. The border has naturalistic flowers and a butterfly on a gold ground. The text shown reads: 'Of Saint Bernard the Abbot. O holy abbot and father Saint Bernard. You of noble birth, handsome, still yound and tender...'. Bernard has 'tuft'.
