Description:
A single leaf from a manuscript from c 1500. The half-length figure of Bernard in prayer with his crozier under his right arm kneels before a crowned and standing Virgin holding the Child with one hand. She bares her breast with the other hand and lets milk emerge. Set under a canopy with a glimpse of a street scene to the right. Miniature in an ogee compartment painted to resemble a wooden frame.before a half-length figure of Bernard kneeling. Landscape with a castle in the background. Scroll at the base with 'Monstra te esse matrem'. Border with naturalistic flowers on a gold base in the Ghent/Bruges style..
