Description:
From 1175-6 this is one of the earliest representations of Bernard - from shortly after his canonization and it is a relatively rare example of him depicted as a priest in the process of celebrating Mass. He is portrayed in the initial T(e igitur) in a Missal at the beginning of the canon of the Mass as the celebrant dressed in an alb, chasuble and stole, before an altar. He holds the Chalice in his left hand and blesses it with his right hand. The Host lies on the altar.
