Description:
c 1530. Scene showing Bernard gaining the support of King Conrad III for the Crusade at the Diet of Speyer in 1146. The king is shown bringing sick children to Bernard to be healed. The Altenberg panel does not show Bernard's famous vision of the statue of Mary on the altar coming to life at the singing of the 'Salve Regina'. Bernard's scroll reads: 'Diffunditur hec benedictio in universum mundum et ad signum vite certatim convolant universi' (This blessing shall be spread to the whole world...). In the background the king is shown leading Bernard away from the throng.
