Description:
1505/32. One of the six panels covering Bernard's travels in preaching the Crusade. This scene is of him riding through Germany in 1146/7 carrying a crucifix in his left hand, his right hand raised in blessing a group of cripples looking up at him in expectation. In the background another group of handicapped people are coming out of a gateway on which hand the arms of Cologne. Bernard's scroll proclaims: 'Sermo mihi ad vos de Negocio Christi, quia Dominus Celi cepit perdere Terram suam Sanctam' (My words to you about Christ are so important because the Lord of Heaven has begun to loose his Holy Land).
