Description:
1505/32. Two scenes separated by a column and witnessed by Bernard's companion and secretary, Geoffrey of Auxerre. On the left a sick Augustiniam canon of St Sernin in Toulouse lies on a bed. Bernard stands by him, a book in his right hand and his left hand raised in blessing. A Cistercian monk next to him holds his crozier and another canon stands behind the bed. On the right the canon, now healed, kneels before Bernard, his hands clasped in prayer, and the words of the scroll proclaim: 'Ecquid expectas, Domine? Generatio hec signum querit' (Mark 8:12). His crozier is carried by a monk standing behind him. The canon then accompanied Bernard back to Clairvaux where he became a monk.
