Description:
One of a large number of woodcuts of saints in the 'Hortulus animae' printed in Strasbourg in 1511/12 by Martin Flach. The figure of the cross-nimbed Christ wearing a crown of thorns has his arms detached from the Cross. Bernard kneels with his arms outstretched to support Christ's body. At Bernard's feet are the arms of Clairvaux surmounted by a mitre. See also EN23.
