Description:
The frontispiece of the works of Bernard 'Melliflui devotique doctoris sancti Bernardi abbatis Clarevallensis Cisterciensis ordinis opus preclarum' printed by Olivier Martin in Lyon in 1520 has an image of the Virgin wearing a crown enthroned with the Child on her knees. She squeezes her breast with her left hand and a jet of milk goes in the direction of the half-figure of Bernard kneeling before her. Bernard is nimbed, his hands folded in prayer and carrying a crozier, and there is a mitre resting on the ground. There are three monks behind him witnessing the scene. The banderole has the traditional Lactation text ' Monstra te esse matrem'.
