Description:
The 'Hortulus animae' printed by Wilhelm Schaffner in Strasbourg in 1498-1500 has an Amplexus image of a nimbed Bernard in a landscape with buildings in the background. Bernard is larger in scale that the figure of Christ with his arms detached from the Cross and bending down to embrace Bernard. Bernard's crozier lies on the ground next to the arms of Clairvaux.
