Description:
Engraving by Cristofano Robetta adapted in reverse with considerable modification from Filippino Lippi's famous painting in the Badia, Florence, painted 1480. Bernard sits in a wild landscape on the left at a desk made out of a knarled tree with an open book. Behind him is a mound instead of rocks on which books are piled. The Virgin before him is in a relatively higher position than in the painting and the angels surrounding the Virgin are placed differently. The devil behind Bernard has been replaced by a larger satyr. The background has been omitted.
