Description:
Bernard? An early sixteenth-century copper-engraving of a small abbot with crozier kneeling before the larger figure of a sainted abbot with an open book in his right hand and a crozier in his left. As the engraving is tipped into a manuscript of 'Otium literariumtriennii excerpta ex divi Bernardi Claravallensis abbatis primi melliflui, et religiosissimi ecclesiae doctoris operibus' it is probably Bernard, but the manuscript belonged to the Benedictine abbey of St Trond, and it may also represent St Benedict.
