Description:
One of three coloured engravings taken from an illuminated prayer book in Dutch written by Anna, daughter of Wartys of Utercht, on paper, from Northern Netherlands (probably Utrecht) c 1500-25. The Virgin and Child are enthroned on the left, the Virgin baring her breast to a kneeling Bernard in a black cowl, hands clasped in prayer, staff in his left arm, before a mountainous green landscape. The colours are rose, blue grey, green, and brown-black with gold leaf applied to the haloes, the crozier, the trim on the Virgin's garment, and the details of the architecture, frame painted orange.
